Hybrid TV

Digita’s Hybrid TV, launched in the market in 2015, combines television and online services. In addition to Digita’s nationwide terrestrial antenna network, Hybrid TV services are available, for example, on the cable TV networks of Telia, Elisa and DNA.

Hybrid TV’s additional services are channel-specific. Through Hybrid TV, channels can offer online content related to the channel, as well as interactive services linked to the programme currently on air, or direct viewers to the channel’s own programme-related content, such as streaming services.

Unlike smart TV services, the services provided by Digita’s Hybrid TV are transmitted as part of the programme stream rather than as separate applications. This enables a wide range of services connected to the programme stream, as well as interactive advertising. Through Hybrid TV, you can also watch channels’ online content on the big screen.

Checklist for getting started with Hybrid TV:

  • Is your television connected to Digita’s terrestrial antenna network or to the cable TV network of Telia, Elisa or DNA?
  • Is your television connected to the internet?
  • Does your television support HbbTV 1.5 or a newer version? As a rule, the latest televisions support this version. HbbTV support and version information are shown in the television’s specifications, and you can also confirm this with the retailer or importer.
  • Is HbbTV enabled in the television settings? HbbTV services are usually enabled by default.

Once these are in place, go to one of the free-to-air channels, look for the Hybrid TV icon, activate it and enjoy the hybrid services!

Judge from your sofa and dive into additional programme content!

With Hybrid TV, viewers can take part in programmes, for example by voting for their favourite using the remote control, and explore additional programme content or follow the programme’s social media hashtag feed.

HbbTV

HbbTV is a standard whose abbreviation stands for Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV. It combines TV broadcasting and broadband by making online TV features easily available to viewers. The television receiver must have an internet connection and the HbbTV feature activated.
